Case Study - Renovation of the Lady Hurria Mosque - Light of the future in harmony with cultural heritage
The Lady Hurria Mosque, located in the heart of Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is an important site both culturally and religiously. Its role for the local community is extremely important, as it not only serves as a spiritual center, but also as a place for social and scientific gatherings. A recent comprehensive renovation aimed not only to restore the building, but also to change its character through the use of modern lighting. The renovation work had to take place in the evenings due to the high daytime temperatures, but above all because of the daily cycle of the mosque operation – followers of Islam are required to hold five prayers a day.

SOLUTION
The renovation of the Lady Hurria Mosque was a comprehensive undertaking, including both the restoration of the building's exterior and interior structure. The goal of the project was to preserve the historic character of the mosque while introducing modern technological solutions. The work included restoration of the facade, replacement of damaged structural elements and conservation of original architectural details, which are an important element of the region's cultural heritage. One of the key elements of the renovation was the use of modern lighting. The clients had a clear goal: before the restoration, the mosque was not illuminated and was a dark spot on the city map. With the renovation and modern lighting, the intention was to attract the attention of new worshippers, increase the loyalty of current ones, but also to give the building a more attractive appearance. The temple lighting project was carried out by an experienced distributor, Belight. As the official partner of KLUŚ on this market, the company took full responsibility for the planning and professional installation of the lighting system. Thanks to their commitment and experience, the project was carried out with the utmost care, fulfilling all the client's expectations. The LED lighting used highlights the architectural qualities of the building, increasing its visibility and attractiveness in the urban space. The lighting was designed to create an atmosphere conducive to concentration and reflection, while at the same time fulfilling practical functions, providing adequate light intensity in key areas such as the courtyard and minaret.

Exterior Lighting
Main entrance and roof crown
The lighting of the entire building was designed with extreme precision to bring out and highlight key architectural elements, such as the majestic minaret. By strategically placing the lights, it was possible to highlight the elegant details of the structure, creating a breathtaking interplay of light and shadow that fully captures the beauty and uniqueness of the building. The main entrance, which features a beautifully calligraphed Quranic passage above it, and the intricately designed crown pattern on the roof were perfectly illuminated using the LIPOD profile. The width of the LIPOD profile allows for the installation of two LED strips, which allows for higher brightness and clarity of illumination, perfectly highlighting details such as the Quranic inscription above the entrance and the complex patterns on the roof. In addition, the LIPOD profile offers easy combining into long strings and systems, which is particularly useful for complex lighting projects. Its ability to integrate the power supply directly into the luminaire's illuminating section was key in choosing this solution for the roof crown illumination. With the LIPOD profile, a harmony between aesthetics and functionality was achieved, illuminating the most important elements of the building in a way that highlights their beauty and importance, while providing practical mounting solutions. The use of the LIPOD profile in a lighting project not only highlights the architectural qualities of the building, but also meets the requirements for efficient and versatile installation. This combination of aesthetics and state-of-the-art LED technology gives the entrance and roof crown a spectacular new expression.
Minaret
The minaret, the key element calling Muslims to prayer, was carefully illuminated to highlight its unique significance in the building's architecture. A LIPOD LED profile was used to illuminate the minaret's balcony, subtly accentuating this section with its even light. Thanks to the bendability of the LIPOD profile, the lighting was perfectly adapted to the round shape of the tower, enhancing its elegant silhouette and unique character.Niches and cornices
The niches and richly decorated cornices of the Lady Hurria Mosque have been elegantly highlighted using LED lighting based on the PDS-4-PLUS profile. This slender profile, with a width of just 16.2 mm, fits perfectly into the small gaps of the cornices and niches, allowing the architectural elements of the building to be delicately and subtly highlighted, emphasizing the rich ornamentation and stone bands with calligraphy. As a result, architectural details are gently highlighted, giving the building a refined and majestic appearance.Windows decorated with arabesque
Windows decorated with intricate arabesques have gained a new luster thanks to the REGULOR LED profile. This innovative profile, equipped with an adjustable LED mounting pad, allows you to precisely adjust the lighting angle, offering as many as five different settings. In the context of this project, in order to subtly highlight the elegant semicircular arches of the windows, the light angle was precisely set at 10 degrees. By fine-tuning the angle of illumination, the light gently washes over the surface of the arches, giving them clarity and depth without being too diffuse.

Interior lighting
Mezzanines
Even lighting plays a key role during evening or early morning prayers, when natural light is insufficient. During the renovation of the temple, it was decided to install mezzanine lighting, in the form of two parallel rows of PDS-4-PLUS LED profiles. The profile allows simultaneous illumination of the mezzanine both downward and upward, which allows to accurately highlight architectural details, balustrades and decorative elements. With the ability to direct the light in both directions, this lighting not only provides even illumination of the interior, but also adds depth and unique charm, highlighting its architectural beauty and detail. Such a solution not only functionally improves lighting conditions, but also aesthetically complements the atmosphere of the temple interior, creating the right aura for reflection and prayer.

Conclusions
The renovation of the Lady Hurria Mosque wonderfully illustrates how a harmonious combination of modern technology and respect for cultural heritage can yield significant religious and social benefits. Thanks to carefully selected lighting, the mosque has not only gained visual appeal, but also strengthened its role as a center of local community life.State-of-the-art LED lighting systems from KLUŚ ensure not only aesthetic highlighting of architectural details, but also energy efficiency and longevity. The ability to precisely adjust the intensity of the light made it possible to subtly enhance the beauty of the minaret and other key elements of the building.
All this was possible thanks to the professional implementation of the project by distributor Belight. Its advanced approach showed that modern solutions can significantly enrich the functioning and perception of religious facilities by the local community.
